Why you Need a Goal

We all know about the act of having and setting a goal right. You focus on something that you want to achieve and accomplish, and then you go about trying to do just that.

I'm sure that the vast majority of you who are reading this, at some point or another in your life, have set yourself a goal. It may have only been a short-term goal, it may have been a long-term goal, but I'm sure that you're familiar with the process of goal-setting.
Setting a goal is the first step you take to accomplishing that goal because without a goal there's nothing to accomplish in the first place. From here it's just going through the actions and steps that are needed to complete that goal.

There are some valid reasons why you should set yourself goals and not just on occasions but regularly, incorporating them into your daily life.

1. Causes Change

The biggest and most profound effect that a goal can have on your life is change. If you want to change your current position then you will need to set yourself a goal, without doing so will mean your situation will never change because you will have no motivation to do so. Every day that passes by is another opportunity to begin the process of change and set yourself a goal. Every day that goes by and a goal is not set is an opportunity missed.

Now there are some people who are more passive than others and are completely happy with their life and are not really bothered about change or goal-setting - and that's completely fine. However, for a lot of people, whilst change can be scary, it will need to happen if you want to achieve your goal(s).

2. Causes ambition

Having something tangible for you to strive for will allow for the creation of ambition. A personal goal is a representation of what you want, not the goal of somebody else, but your own goal. It's this personal goal that you have and that you want to see achieved is what will help drive you forward and create the ambition needed.

Without having a goal it is almost, if not fully, impossible to have ambition. Without ambition nothing will change or happen in the way that you want. So having a goal is definitely a part of ambition.

3. Keeps you to a high standard

A goal is not only a source of drive and change, but also a challenge for you to raise your standards. This is something that will naturally occur with goal-setting.

The purpose of setting a goal is to try and achieve something that you haven't done before or aren't yet at the standard to achieve. This is where to achieve your goal you must need to go through the process of growing and raising your game to the point where that goal becomes reachable and grab-able.

4. Less likely to be distracted

It's very easy to become distracted, probably in today's age more than ever, and can be very annoying for you when you're not wanting to be distracted. Having a goal will allow you to have a clear target and point of focus so that when distractions come up, you're still able to know where you are heading and why.
It's having a worthwhile goal that enables our minds to not become as easily distracted because you want to achieve your goal.
If you would like to read more about concentration, here's a previous post of mine: Concentration techniques.

5. Helps to boost productivity

Having a personal goal that you will need to work for to achieve will have a positive correlation with that of productivity and will help to ward off procrastinating behaviour. Motivating yourself to be productive and not letting yourself waste time can be a truly difficult thing to do, but having a goal to aspire for will help you to remain determined to keep being active in your goal-aspirations.

If you would like to read more on becoming more productive, here's an earlier post of mine: 21 ways to boost productivity.

6. Boosts confidence

Now I'm not saying that having a goal will turn the shyest of people to become the most outgoing, overconfident of people - this isn't realistic, although I don't doubt that it could happen (if that was your goal). What I'm saying is by having a goal and seeing the improvements you are making as the process moves further forward it can lead to a self-satisfying experience and does help to naturally boost confidence in ones own abilities.

7. Sense of achievement

This benefit comes right at the end of the process of having a goal, and that's actually completing your goal. The sense of achievement that you will feel is great when you do this, especially if it was a particularly challenging aspiration.

It's when you've fulfilled your personal goal and seen the results, you can look back and say "you know what, that was worth the effort". Being able to look back and see the change from start to finish is definitely rewarding. It will also help motivate you to set more goals to achieve.

Conclusion

I hope that through this post you can see why having a goal is an important and powerful tool at your disposal, and is something that you should consider placing into your own life regularly if you don't already.

How to Create an Exercise Plan

Setting yourself the challenge to exercise regularly can seem like a daunting goal. Not knowing where to start or which exercises to do, and can be off-putting before you've even begun. A lot of people who exercise regularly will have faced this at the start and many of them have an exercise plan set in place to allow them to consistently get the exercise their body needs. For these people, their exercise plan is usually already in their heads as they've got into a routine, but for anyone who's just starting to exercise (maybe you who's reading this post), then an exercise plan would be a good thing to set in place.

1. Determine the amount of time available

It's no good setting yourself the goal of exercising an hour a day if you only have 20 minutes to spare. When you first start an exercise plan you'll want to determine straight away how much time you have to spare. Then once you've done that you can then decide what exercises to do.

You may have 20 minutes as a whole to spare a day but that's 10 minute sessions at two parts of the day, and that's fine. A workout plan doesn't need you to do your whole workout for the day in a single session, breaking it into chunks will make it more manageable anyway - especially when first starting out.

If you don't have enough time in the day to manage an exercise session then there are things you can do to make time. For example: you may decide to get up an hour earlier to allow yourself 30 minutes of exercise. Or, if you go to work, decide to cycle to work - which can count as your exercise for the day, depending upon how long it is for you to cycle. If it's only five minutes, you may want to consider finding time to do some more. Just look where you could spare some time - you may be surprised.
If you want to know how you can get up earlier, here's a previous post of mine 'How to get up Early in the morning'.

2. Decide what exercises you're going to do

When creating an exercise plan you'll want the right kind of workout for you. If you're looking to lose weight, then cardiovascular exercises are the best things to go for. Doing cardio boosts your metabolism to help burn fat quicker and helps to promote a healthy heart helping in the prevention of heart diseases and strokes.

If you're wanting to gain muscle then you would do a muscle workout. Muscle workouts also help to burn fat because increasing muscle will also help to speed up metabolism - not to the same extent that cardio does though. Although, having muscle does help burn fat quicker because there is less space for the fat to be - that's not to say that just doing muscle workouts will help you lose all the weight you want because it wont and that's where cardio is required.
You may decide to do a mixture of both cardio and muscle exercises.

If you're wanting to do cardio exercises then it's normally best to do them most days or everyday. It's alright if you can't do it everyday - it's your exercise routine.

Examples of cardio exercises:
  • Running (probably the most popular cardio exercise)
  • Swimming
  • Walking
  • Dancing
  • Skipping rope/Jump roping
  • Cycling
 Examples of muscle exercise:
  • Glutes and hamstrings - Knee to chest, hip raises, split squats, step-ups.
  • Triceps, chest and shoulders - push-ups, chair-dips, bench press,
  • Abdominals and lower back - Leg raises, cycles, crunches, mountain climbers, jumping knee tucks
  • Forearms and biceps - pull-ups, inverse body weight rows,
  • Quads - Squats, lunges, heel slides, wall slides, backward drag, alternate leg diagonal bound, frog hops, standing hip flexors.
There are many more cardio and muscle exercises that you can do, these are just some examples to give you an idea. If you decide to do muscle exercises then it's best to do them every 2-3 days (48-72 hours) to give your muscles time to expand and repair.

3. Consistency

Now when I'm talking about consistency I'm talking about two things. The first is how often you're going to exercise and the second is at what time.

If you don't have much time to spare during your busy week you may decide to do 30 minutes of exercise every other day or if you're really pushed for time maybe just once or twice a week. The main thing is the consistency of the exercise. Our bodies like routine and so by being consistent with your exercise will not only allow your body to adapt naturally, but also carve out a scheduled space in your life in which you set aside specifically for exercise. People who are consistent with their exercise are much more likely to stick to it than that of an inconsistent person.

Also applying a time of day is helpful to make a much more specific exercise time, and if consistent, will help you to stick to it even easier. For example: you may decide that every week-day you're going to jog for half an hour. The only thing is, not only do you have work during the day, but you also have family commitments afterwards. You may then decide that waking up an extra hour earlier in the mornings will give you time to go for a 20-30 minute jog and be back in time for when you would usually wake-up. So, the mornings at, let's say for example 6:30, you leave the house to go for your 30 minute jog.

A quote I mentioned in my 'don't break the chain' article was "consistency breeds momentum", and it really does.

4. Keep a record of what you do

When you're caught-up in your exercise sessions it can be easy to not keep track of what you do and how long for. Also, because strenuous exercise can get exhausting it can be easy to over-exaggerate or under-exaggerate the amount of time used up.

This is where keeping a record of what you do is useful. Make a mental note of when you start and when you finish write down how much time has passed. Over time you will be able to compare these workouts with each other and will be able to make slight adjustments.

Try to record how much you do in terms of exercise as well, distances or repetitions. For example: I ran to the park and back today, I did 50 push-ups, I cycled a mile, etc.

Conclusion

When first creating an exercise plan it may seem like an alien concept, and you may find it challenging - this is normal. Don't start off too ambitious. Create a manageable plan, and if it is too easy and not challenging enough for you, make the changes to it that will make it that bit harder. The best thing to do is to stick to it, and before you know it you'll have worked exercise into your daily life. Good luck.

Update: If you have an iPhone, then you can get some useful apps to help your workout

History: Conoco

Our first "History Lesson" on our RHD facebook page of course had to be this famous steer!!!! Here is what we have learned from each other about this significant historical animal!

  • Chris Terembes first identified the steer as "Conoco", followed by Sarah Abatti adding that he was the first crossbred steer to win a national show, judged by Dr. Don Good.
  • Jeannine Doughty (who happens to know a lot of history by the way) added that indeed, Conoco was the Grand Champion Steer at the 1969 International, a Charolais x Angus steer who weighed 1250 pounds.
  • John Dickinson (of course he had to get an Angus plug in there) noted that the steer was sired by an Charolais bull and out of an Angus cow from North Dakota.
  • Curtis Ohlde taught us that Dr. Good was a professor at Kansas State University, then Chris Cassady shared that the steer graded Choice and was a Yield Grade 2.
  • Beth Riffel told us that Conoco's picture still hangs in Weber 123 on the campus of K State University.
  • Holly Martin knew that the exhibitor's name was Brad Lindskog and shared a great blog about this story that was published in the High Plains Journal:  http://www.hpj.com/archives/2012/feb12/feb27/0222EditMR27_hm.cfm. John Dickinson shared that Lindskog had won in Illinois a lot with the steer and then went on to win Chicago. Les Reel is on the halter on this picture. Chicago Mercantile bought the steer for $12/pound.
  • Dr. Twig Marston, beef cattle professor, added that Conoco was the beginning of the modern beef industry, and Debbie Crow shared that she was there that day and remembers the show!
Then, we all got a treat!! Kris Miller (sister to Brad, the exhibitor) shared: "That is my big brother's steer Conoco!" At that point everyone was delighted to get the birds eye view of the show from the people who experienced it first hand! Kris shared that the family also won the show a few years later with a steer named Bold Move. Conoco was presented to a Japanese official in Washington, D.C. and lived out his life there. He was never butchered.

THANKS everyone for sharing and helping us learn about a great piece of history!

History: "David" The Hereford Bull

One of our popular facebook fun items is our "History Lessons" where we post old photos and then our friends share what they know about the significant animals. It's an awesome way to hear good old stories from people nationwide.

One of these recent "History Lessons" included this family bull, named "David." As we gathered comments and stories on facebook, here are the great stories behind this famous bull.

  • David was owned and exhibited by Bright Bros. Herefords of Le Grand, California. Sandy Meyer shared that his sire was the bull named "Lerch"
  • 1981 Denver, National Western Stock Show
  • Caroline McMahon shares:  It sold for a record $301K at auction!
  • Matt Leo (James Bright's son), shares:  As the story goes Goliath was his competition and a popular bull at the time James Bright thought he could beat him so he named him "David" . Lerch was his sire the 1978 Reserve Grand Bull. David won Denver in 1980 under Bill Jacobs and in
1981 got beat by another Bull Bright's sold named Centenial shown by V Bar Ranch af Stanton, Tx . " David was bought buy Born Herefords and Granite Hills for $301,000 and still the Denver record. We still to this day work out of the showbarn and ranch " David" built!
  • Val Reiss of Kansas shares: " David was very line bred, same grandfather both sides. Legend has it David was conceived when Lerch jumped fence and got in with show heifers next door. Our black baldy steer that was Reserve Grand at Michigan 5 years ago shown by Ryan Smoes had a Hereford grandmother by David. Good genetics fit everywhere"

To this day, David holds the record of the highest selling bull of the Hereford breed. And, the Bright Bros. and Leo Bros. is still a great cattle operation in California. Thanks for sharing the photo with us!

History: "The White Heifer that Travelled"

In August we posted this famous Shorthorn photo to our facebook page where our friends take part in our "History Lessons" where we post old photos and then everyone shares what they know. This photo features "The White Heifer That Travelled", an old Shorthorn photo.

Here are some great tidbits about this significant animal.

  • J.E. Ranch first identified her as "The White Heifer That Travelled", and later Jeannine Doughty identified that she lived in the early 1800s and was a freemartin heifer.
  • Charles Anderson helped us learn that she was bred by Robert Colling and that the freemartin weighed over 2,300 pounds at maturity! He also said that she was so fat that the groove down her topline was so deep that locals would drink their favorite "beverages" out of her back with straws!! John Mason corroborated this story, adding that the drink of choice was whiskey!
  • Grant Alexander (a Canadian Shorthorn breeder) helped us learn that she got her name because she was displayed all across England as "the model beef animal" of that time.

And finally, WB Show Cattle intrigued us with the question of: "Wonder what would happen if we bred her to Heat Wave!"

How to Lose Weight

Obesity rates are on the rise. People want to know how to lose weight, and some are trying to, however, society is not letting them. This is as society is putting more and more obstacles in the way of losing weight. It now seems that it is wrong for our bodies to ever feel hunger, but really this is totally normal and our bodies are equipped to handle this.

There are so many advertisements around telling you about these unhealthy foods and how you need to try them and mentioning how cheap they are. And in comparison, unhealthy foods are relatively cheap, whilst the healthier options (for instance: fruits and veg) are a bit more on the pricey side. That's not to say that it's only because of society that a person is overweight, that's not true, there can be many factors that contribute towards a persons weight. These tips are known to work it's just making sure that you stick to them.

1. Exercise

Exercise is essential for wanting to lose weight. Exercise is great for helping shed those calories and helps to speed up metabolism, which is what burns the majority of calories. Adults are recommended to do at least 30 minutes of moderately intense exercise 5-7 days a week, whilst overweight and obese people should aim for 60 minutes and upwards.
There are so many different forms exercise can take, so there should be one for you somewhere. That could be in the form of swimming, cycling, running, etc.

You may be thinking "I don't have 20 minutes to spare, let alone 30 minutes or more". Well this is common for many people, but the good thing is you can break it up into smaller chunks as long as you manage to hit your guideline for the day. For example, you may decide to do a 10 minute walk to work and a 10 minute walk back from work. That then only leaves the remainder of your time to spend doing something else.

Try adapting to a more physically engaging lifestyle; try walking instead of taking the car or bus, or take up cycling, take stairs instead of lifts, take regular short-session intervals for something as small as 5 minutes of activity. Maybe even join a club. Over time it really does do your body good.

2. Drink water

What you drink also plays a vital part in weight reduction as well, so sugary drinks are best to be avoided. If you like to enjoy an alcoholic beverage then try to limit the amount you have or stop completely. Water is the best liquid to go with and helps with metabolism. In fact one way to see a reduction in calorie consumption is simply to switch to water as being your 'main drink'.
You can read more about drinking water here: 10 Reasons for Drinking Water.

3. Eat healthier

Eating healthier is something that, if you're serious about weight loss, will need to be implemented into your life. The truth is that your body needs vitamins and minerals to help sustain it and keep it functioning properly, not to mention helping with metabolism.

Sugary foods and fatty foods are the big contributors to weight gain so cutting these out of your diet, or at least limiting their intake will definitely be beneficial.
If possible, try and get your recommended 5-fruits-and-veg a day. They are very low in calories and are great for snacks.

4. Watch your calorie intake

You're body naturally burns calories, the majority is done through sleeping, but it is affected about what you do during the day. If you're consuming more calories per day than your body is burning then you are inevitably going to gain weight and not lose it. A lot of people who are doing this will not even realise the amount of calories they're taking in. When I started to have a look on the nutritional labels on the sides of food packaging, I was shocked about how easy it is to consume more than your daily calorie intake-guideline. Healthier foods seem to be lower in calories and so are the ones to go for, and they provide a steady energy use throughout the day.
Men's guideline intake of calories is 2,500. Women's calorie intake is 2,000 per day.

5. Don't suddenly change your lifestyle

Your body will not adapt well to all of these sudden changes if you drastically change what you're doing. When wanting to train-up for a marathon without having any running experience, you don't just start by trying to do 26 miles. You slowly build up to that, maybe only starting with half a mile until your body has adapted to the change you are making.
So with trying to lose weight, for a lot of people anyway, a gradual change should be made so as to adapt better to the changes. This will keep you more inclined to keep these new good habits.

It's definitely possible to make a lot of big sudden changes and stick with them, however, only more disciplined people can do it this way. It is the quickest way though, but the way that isn't normally stuck to with most people.

If you do decide to start by making a gradual change to your lifestyle, don't let your self make excuses and allow lots of bad habits to continue because your making a gradual change. The emphasis shouldn't be on the gradual (because that could cause you to be very gradual about the process) but on the change, which is after all what you're after. Also a gradual change doesn't mean that you can't set challenging goals, just not as big as a full-blown lifestyle turn-around.

6. Eat breakfast

Despite the rumour floating around that avoiding breakfast is good for you - it's not. Breakfast is essential for kick-starting your day and providing you with the energy your body needs. Whilst you sleep your metabolism will slow down and by having breakfast in the morning will help to get it going for another day. If you do miss breakfast you can lose fat, however, your body can also start to break down muscle as a a source of energy and that's not good. Having more muscle will mean there is less space for fat (if you don't eat excessively and do exercise) and actually helps with the promotion of a healthy metabolism, making burning fat easier.

7. Stop snacking

This is where a lot of people trip up and I can see why. Snacking is an incredibly easy thing to do, especially when you're bored or have had a stressful time - acting as comfort food. When people change their diet, often they seem to forget about snacking and it seems that one or two biscuits here and there won't hurt - but they do. Unhealthy snacks (such as biscuits, chocolate, sweets, and the like) are all high in calories and sugar, and will prevent you from losing as much weight as you could, if at all.
I've written a post about snacking named: How to Stop Snacking

8. Keep a food diary

This is just to let you know what your calorie consumption is for each day. What you will need to do is to record the day's date and then record everything that you eat as your day goes along - and I mean EVERYTHING. Do not let anything get missed. If you want a truly accurate total of the calories that you consume then it is vital that you do not miss anything. Make sure to record saturated fat contents and sugar contents for each thing that you eat as-well, as these all contribute towards putting on weight. Your recommended daily sugar intake should be no more than 120g (for men) and 90g (for women). Saturated fat intake should be no more than 30g (for men) and 20g (for women).

Conclusion

Weight loss is not something that will happen overnight but is something that you will have to adapt to for the long term. If you are wanting to see serious results then you will need to adopt all of these tips and then have the self-discipline and motivation to stick to them. If you can afford to, getting a personal trainer who knows what they're doing will help you to keep to your goal. Good luck.

Sullivan Farms :: Dunlap, Iowa

I remember very clearly the first time I had spoken with John Sullivan about a website for his Shorthorn farm. It was back in the summer of 2003 and I was driving from College Station to Huntsville, Texas to watch my little cousin in a rodeo. This was at the time when I still operated RHD alone, out of my dining room in College Station. When I talked to John about his website, this was one of the largest breeder sites we would be doing at the time. I was ecstatic.

That's been nearly 10 years ago! And wow have things changed since then! It really seems hard to believe that we have been working with the Sullivan account, and many others, for 10 years!

Here at RHD we keep a list of each site, along with the date it was designed, and last updated. Then we try to periodically check with clients who have an older design and recommend we give it a little fresh look about every two years or so. We also have the "Top Ten Oldest Design" list in which we identify the oldest 10 designs currently in use. Then we really try to encourage those people to get a new look.

Well, to cut to the chase, the Sullivan Farms site was #2 on our "Oldest Design" list. We began asking John about a year or two ago if we could work on a new look. But, we got so busy working on projects for the exciting Stock Show U last year, that it seemed that the new website for the farm got put on the back burner. After a year of friendly reminding (lol) we started putting John's print designer, Arin Strasburg, in the mix of this pleading. Me, Arin, John, and Dede set a goal to have a new site up and running before August 15th of the year so that it would be up just before they began posting sale photos from their fall sale.

I have to say, this is one of my all time favorite sites. I just love it. I love the awesome photos, the colors, the logo, the style, and the great family history behind this business. Oh and it doesn't hurt that the pictures are great Shorthorns too by the way!

So, I really hope everyone will take a moment to visit www.maternallegends.com (named after their sale) and see our latest creation! We love it and hope you do too!

9 Tips to Organise a Notebook

In my last post I discussed about the various benefits that come with keeping a notebook to jot down thoughts, ideas, or anything else of use to you. You can read that post here: The Benefits of Writing a Notebook.

This post is going to be about how to organise a notebook so it is easily readable or at least manageable to gather information from. Lots of people who have there own notebook(s) don't keep it organised or tidy, making it hard for them to find or re-read things they have recorded. There are many different ways to keep your notebook organised, so if a method you use doesn't appear here, feel free to comment about it at the bottom.

1. Divide by sections

One of the most common ways of organising a notebook is using the dividing method. This is where you split your notebook up into designated sections for a category of your choice. For example: You may have four sections; one for quotes, one for thoughts and ideas, one for writing or poetry, and one for another topic of interest. Whatever these sections are, there will normally be a set amount of space for each of these categories.

I personally don't get along with this method, not because it doesn't work because it does for many people, but because It doesn't suit my personality. In my notebook, I travel from one random topic to the next very frequently and am not a fan of setting a sort of 'quarantined zone' for a set category. It's just not my style.

2. Divide by lines

This is the method that I use. As I said above I am someone who will go from subject to subject in a very short time and then continue to revisit these subjects furthering them in development. Because of this, each of my notebook pages will hold a variety of information. So to do my best at organising it, I separate them by lines, and then index them. For example: if I was to write about physics, I would make sure I finish what I was wanting to write and then put a line underneath that segment allowing me to carry on to something else and have the ability to distinguish between topics. It's not the most effective way to organise a notebook but it works for me, and I also implement point #3 as-well.

3. Index

Another popular way of organising a notebook would be to include a index. The index would need to be organised in itself for it to work effectively, for example; alphabetically. This is something that I include in my notebook so finding information is easier. In fact, whatever method you use to organise your notebook, an index never hurts.

4. Include page numbers

This point is really just a simple tip that you should do anyway if you're wanting to organise a notebook. It's easy to jot down an idea and not know where you had placed it, so to include page numbers will help you locate things - of course this ties in with point #3 (index).

5. Contents

If you're the kind of person who is going to fill up many notebooks and want to know what the general contents of the book is - it would be wise to include a contents. Whilst an index will tell you what specific points and information is included in your notebook, a contents will give you the general layout of the book (main titles, categories, and major sub-categories) - meaning you will know sooner if what you're looking for is there or not. If it is, then you could go onto using the index.

6. Write and present neatly

If you just have one notebook that you casually put ideas down into, like if you're out somewhere, then you will probably know how messy and chaotic it can get. Try though, if you can, to write neater and at least present the information in a more readable way, maybe put a limit to the amount of writing that you can put on one page or make sure that you write straight all the time. This is such a simple thing that can go a long way when trying to retrieve previous notes. For me, I know that it would be hard to do this, so I have a better notebook at home in which I write everything up in neat.

7. Categorise whole notebooks

Some people don't like to include multiple topics in one notebook as they feel it can get too overwhelming or can be too much hassle to keep up with. Instead, they have multiple notebooks which they assign a category to. For example; one entire notebook may be for writing, another maybe for maths, another for poetry, another for cookery, another for music etc.
This is another method that allows you to locate information easier. For example; I recently did some work on 'sonata form', therefore I know that this will be in the music notebook. You could then have implemented further organisational techniques into the actual notebook to help you even more.

8. Page tabs

Page tabs are another useful method of organising a notebook. What you label these tabs as is up to you. Some people write the main category titles on them, others put subtitles, and others use them for identification for useful or commonly referenced pages. Whatever you use them for, it will make accessing parts of your notebook so much quicker.

9. Include dates

Another very simple and very quick thing to do. When organising something like a notebook it is always good to include dates. They can be used a bit like page numbers, as long as each page is a successor to the page before it date-wise, and make finding things that bit easier. It also gives an impression of organisation. :)

[Had family over this last week coupled with work, meaning I haven't been able to spend really any time on Smart Blog. Hopefully I'll be able to get back into the rhythm of it].

The core strength of Photoshop is the way it enables you to improve the quality of your images, whether you’re fixing a major problem or making a subtle adjustment. In this workshop Tim Grey explores a wide variety of techniques to help you get the best results when optimizing your images. He begins with basics like cropping, changing brightness and contrast, and correcting color balance, then moves on to more advanced adjustments like Shadows/Highlights, Curves, and dodging and burning. You’ll learn how to make targeted adjustments that affect only selected parts of the image and apply creative adjustments that don’t so much fix a problem as add a unique touch. And best of all, Tim teaches all these techniques as part of an overall workflow designed to help you work quickly, efficiently, and nondestructively.

Younge Cattle Company :: Iowa Angus Breeder

We always love working with Angus breeders on new website designs and Younge Cattle Company is our latest creation!

The Younge's came to us by a word of mouth referral from their friends at Four Corners Farms, another Angus client of ours. The folks at FCF were happy with the work we did and they told their friends.

After a quick phone call early one morning with owner Marc Younge, we had a service contract faxed back in and a design proof rolling! That's the kind of customer we love working with.

The Younge Cattle Co operation is a family business. It all started when Marc and Robin wanted to help their children learn responsibility and work ethic by showing cattle. Marc, being a businessman, chose The Business Breed: Angus! :) (We always love to throw in that slogan whenever we can.)

The family began studying Angus genetics and decided they were going to focus on proven cow families....Georgina, Keymura Katy, Champion Hill cow families, and more. They felt that these cow families were the best investment for both their daughters show heifers as well as future production.

We loved working on this site. We hope you will visit it at http://youngecattle.com and see some of the great Angus females owned by the Younge's.

Indian Mound Ranch :: Hereford Cattle Ranch

Isn't this an adorable ranching family!

One of our newest cattle website designs is Indian Mound Ranch, a family owned and operated business located in Canadian, Texas.

Owner Lee Haygood is the 4th generation on the ranch that was founded by his great grandfather in the mid 1880s. Today, he operates the ranch with his wife Jacqui and their two sons Luke & Mark (who we are all in love with here at RHD by the way....aren't they just adorable little cowboys!)

With it's rich history, Indian Mound Ranch has stayed on top of technology which allows them to offer fault-free and functional cattle. Their Herefords are raised on range country with minimal inputs. They breed top quality herd bulls and use strict culling to keep the cow herd moving in the right direction.

Bull development is also important for the Haygoods. Bulls are fed a 20% range cube diet at a minimal rate. Bulls are kept in a pen and feed tested to identify the bulls that can thrive and perform on range conditions. When you buy a bull from Indian Mound Ranch, you can expect him to go straight to work, without melting or falling apart when he gets in the pasture. The Haygood family also collects a lot of performance data and conducts carcass ultrasounding to provide the most information possible to clients.

Sounds like a recipe for success to me! I hope you will visit www.indianmoundranch.com and check it out.

We are so appreciative of all of our Hereford website clients that have joined the RHD family in the past few months. We are currently designing and maintaining about 25 different purebred Hereford ranches, including many of the leading breeders in the nation both commercial and show oriented. Our team includes two Hereford ladies: KC Kinder and Ashley Middleswarth, and we are very passionate about this breed.

GR Construction :: Texas

One of our newest sites to go on line is GR Construction, a construction firm based out of Wharton County that serves the Texas gulf coast and greater Houston area. GR Construction is owned by Garrett Rod, a native of El Campo, Texas. He started the business in January 2010 after graduating from Sam Houston State University with a degree in industrial technology / construction management.
Starting from the ground up, Garrett began getting the hands on experience to match his degree by working with various companies in the Houston area. After a few years, he started his own company. Initially, he began with working on small remodeling jobs, and through the years has steadily grown.

In the past year, he has completed a variety of construction projects including remodels, commercial construction, ground up constructions, home additions, and more.

As a motivated small business owner, Garrett seeks to continually expand his services. He recently added the technology to offer his clients computer aided design for site work, floor plans, and 3D renderings.

Here at RHD, we know what it's like to start your business from nothing, and then put in the long hours and efforts to make it a success. That's why we love working with businesses like GR Construction to help them expand their marketing efforts.

We invite you to check out his site, and if you are considering a home building project, a construction project, or even a re-model to contact Garrett at 979-541-9488 or email garrett.grc@gmail.com
